CHAIRMAN’S NOTES
Good afternoon everyone and welcome to the start of the 2018/19 season, a historic one for everyone involved in Lewes Football Club as we prepare to join the Championship for the first time.
Before we kick off the league campaign, we welcome our old friends, and fellow Championship rivals from South-East London, Charlton Athletic Women, for this afternoon’s WSL Continental League Cup.
I hope that the Charlton fans, players, management and officials enjoy your afternoon (off the pitch at least) here at The Dripping Pan.
Congratulations once again on your fantastic achievement in winning the FAW Premier League South last season and the subsequent play-off against Blackburn Rovers.
Understandably, it has been a hectic close season with activity on and off the pitch. John has been incredibly busy building his squad as well as his back-room staff and I’d like to welcome all the new arrivals to the club.
I also like to welcome Jack and Rosy who have joined us “in the office” and will be instrumental in our preparations for the season, alongside Jackie.
We’ve had to adapt very quickly to the requirements of the Championship and I am sure that we will do the name of Lewes proud as we go onto the first season at this level.
I’d also like to thank our volunteers, without whom we would not have a game on at all this afternoon. Their work is vital and much appreciated and I hope they also get to enjoy the game this afternoon.
The new structure of the top levels of the Women’s game in England is the first step, in my opinion, of us becoming a consistent force in the world game.
There’s no secret that we all want to see England bidding, and winning, the right to host a World Cup. Whilst many will not see a link between what happens here today and a global tournament, it is vital that we do our part in building awareness and interest in the game, which will add to momentum at the national level.
Be proud of what we have achieved as a club and look forward with excitement to the next chapter.

TODAY’S OPPONENTS
In 2000, Croydon came under the umbrella of Charlton Athletic to form Charlton Athletic WFC. The club won the London Cup and reached the FA Cup final in 2003, before claiming their first major trophy the following season when they won the League Cup.
The Addicks won their only FA Cup in 2005 with a victory over Everton, finishing runners-up in the league for the second successive season.
In 2007, Charlton won the Premier League Cup before a move into the Premier League Southern Division in the 2008/09 season.
Charlton moved to Thamesmead Town FC in 2010/11 winning the Southern Division title, and claiming the London Cup in 2013.
A memorable season in 2014/15 saw Charlton win the FA Women’s Premier League Cup, retain the Capital Women’s Senior Cup & pick up the Ryman Cup for the first time.
They finished 3rd in the FAWPL and were runners-up in 2016, retaining the Capital Women’s Senior Cup for a 4thsuccessive year in 2017.
Last season, Charlton comfortably won the FA WPL South before defeating Northern Division Champions Blackburn Rovers 2-1 in the FAWPL Play-Off final, to clinch promotion to the FA Women’s Championship.
The Addicks also won the Capital Senior Cup again and reached the Isthmian Women’s Cup final.
